Divina Grossman, PhD, RN, FAAN is a healthcare executive, spending many years in academia and private industry. She was named the Chancellor of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on July 2, 2012. Prior to this, she was the first to be named Vice-President for Engagement at Florida International University. She has also served as Director and then Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Florida International University (FIU) from 2000 to 2009. Before her position at FIU, she was Department Chairperson for Chronic Nursing Care at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1999-2000, and Department Chairperson for Adult and Gerontological Nursing at FIU from 1995 to 1998. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing cum laude from the University of Santo Tomas (Philippines), an MSN at the University of Miami, and a PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a Clinical Specialist in Medical Surgical Nursing and is a licensed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in Florida.

Dr. Grossman completed a three-year term on the Board of the American Academy of Nursing. She currently chairs the Academy’s Health Disparities Task Force and co-chairs the Academy’s national health disparities project that is funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. She is the Chairman of the Board at Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Health Foundation of South Florida. She was featured in Miami Today’s Book of Leaders 2006.

Dr. Grossman was the past President of the Florida League for Nursing from 1996-98 and was Chairperson of the Florida Nurses Association Task Force on Cultural Diversity from 1993-98. She served as the Chairperson of the American Nurses Association Council on Medical-Surgical Nursing Practice from 1992-94 and was the Representative of the American Nurses Association to the United States Pharmacopeia. In Texas, she was on the Advisory Board of the Center for Rural Health Initiatives. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the American Red Cross Women’s Spectrum Award for Health Care, Nursing Spectrum Teaching Excellence Award, the Jessie Trice Heroes Award for Health Care Leadership from Health Choice Network, the Mary Cash Award for Outstanding Contributions to Cultural Diversity from the Florida Nurses Association, the Nurse Educator of the Year Award from the Florida Nurses Association, the Ada Sue Hinshaw Award from the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.

Dr. Grossman has authored over 50 journal articles and textbook chapters and has conducted research in the areas of biological rhythms and fever management. She is a popular speaker and has made over 200 presentations in local, regional, national, and international conferences. In the Division of Nursing at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Dr. Grossman has been Chairperson and reviewer for Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Midwife training grant panels from 1998 to 2006. She serves on the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Nursing.
