Alejandro leads grant-writing and manages Brain Center’s research projects in affiliation with the Neuroscience Institute at FIU. With two doctorate degrees from Germany and Cuba, he brings a wealth of experience and acumen in the fields of neurology and neuroscience to our team. Having graduated with honors as a Medical Doctor in Cuba, he was awarded a resident program in Neurology. After a few years as a practicing Neurologist, he received a DAAD fellowship for his Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology and moved to Germany. After completing a Postdoctoral on pain research in the University of Jena, Germany he completed a residency program in Anesthesia (Anesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine and Pain management) and practiced for over 12 years. Alejandro has several publications (including book chapters) in the fields of neurology, neuroscience, pain research and critical care medicine. He was a Member of the editorial board of “Revista de Neurología” for several years. Additionally, he is skilled in immunocytochemistry and in vivo extracellular neuronal recording as well as in regional anesthesia. He also completed an Observership at the Neuro-ICU from Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Experienced Locum Tenens in Anesthesia, he is fluent in Spanish, German and English.
